Tips To Improve Search Engine Ranking

Have you put a lot of time and work into having a beautiful website but realize that no one is finding it in the search engines—and it's just sitting there? It's much like having a storefront where no one ever crosses the threshold. Sadly, this happens very often in the online world.

You need to improve search engine ranking so people can find your site. But how? To improve search engine ranking you have to understand a little bit about how search engines work.

Search engine bots (or spiders) periodically visit your website to review, rank, and index your content. This is called ‘crawling’ and the more often, the better. Having new, unique content on your website each time your site is crawled will bring back the bot more and more often. The more relevant and important your content is viewed by the bot and by other Internet users, the better your rankings will be.

There are 2 ways to get search engines to rank you higher.

The first is on-page optimization. This just means that the content on your actual website is unique and relevant to the terms for which you want to rank well. The most important part of on-page optimization, and the easiest, is the Title Tag. The Title Tag of each page on your site should be different. They should be short (64 characters or less) and should provide a specific description of the page. For example, if you have an E-commerce website where you sell artwork, you would not want the Title Tags of each page to say “Art” or just your company’s name. You would be better off to have the home page Title Tag’s to read something like ‘Impressionist Art For Sale.’ A sub page’s Title Tags might read ‘Monet Reproduction | Claude Monet Copy | Monet Art For Sale’. Besides Title Tags, the next most important thing is to make sure that you have all unique content on your website and are continually adding relevant content (a blog page is good for this).

The other way to have better search engine rankings is off-page optimization. This probably accounts for 75% of Google’s rankings of your website. Google ranks your site mostly on how other Internet users view your website, so you need good, relevant links coming to your website. While on-page optimization is easy enough for anyone who can code a little, it is the off-page optimization where you will most benefit from a good SEO firm. Search engines recognize some links from online articles, blogs, forums, social pages, other websites, social bookmarks, and many other sources. The key is to get the right kind of content out there and linking to your site in the right way. Doing this incorrectly could get your site banned from search engines. Any time you try to fool search engines with the SEO equivalent of a get-rich-quick scheme, you are going to lose. Good SEO takes more time than unethical methods but the results are long-lasting.

It takes many different kinds of efforts to create a powerful web presence. As you add more quality ingredients to that web presence, you will continue to improve search engine ranking.
